ACT F.A.S.T. 2015 – Get Involved!
The Irish Heart Foundation F.A.S.T. awareness week is taking place this year from 26th – 31st July
Each year, approximately 10,000 Irish people have a stroke and around 2,000 die – more deaths than breast cancer, prostate cancer and bowel cancer combined. An estimated 30,000 people are living in the community with disabilities as a result of a stroke. This makes stroke the third biggest cause of death in Ireland and the biggest cause of acquired disability.
Stroke destroys two million brain cells every minute so TIME IS BRAIN. If you suspect that someone is having a stroke call 999 immediately.
F.A.S.T.
- F – Face – has their face fallen on one side? Can they smile?
- A – Arms – Can they raise both arms and keep them there?
- S – Speech – is their speech slurred?
- T –Time to call 999 if you spot any single one of these signs.
F.A.S.T. can help you to rapidly recognise when a stroke is taking place and then act quickly to get medical treatment and prevent serious damage.
This Summer, we are urging all F.A.S.T. campaigners to spread the message during F.A.S.T. awareness week. We have F.A.S.T. leaflets, wallet cards and posters which can be used for raising F.A.S.T awareness in your local community.
